Chili is the perfect meal for a cozy, but casual weeknight dinner. It's effortless and the longer it sits, the better the flavor. Last year after one of my husband's customers brought us some of his chili, which tasted awesome, I decided to tweak a few recipes and make my own. I happen to think this chili is pretty amazing, but I will share with you my recipe so you can find out for yourself. Thanks for stopping by.
My Homeade Chili
1 2.5 lb package of ground beef
2 cans of chili beans, undrained
1 white onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 cans of tomato sauce
1 can fire roasted tomatoes
1 can chili tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
In a dutch oven cook the ground beef until done. Drain and set aside. Rinse the dutch oven and add about a tablespoon of olive oil. Over medium heat add the onion to the oil and cook for about 2 minutes, then add the garlic. Cook for another minute and and add in the ground beef. Stir. Add the chili beans and stir again. Add the tomato sauce, fire roasted tomatoes, and the chili ready tomatoes. Stir and add in the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and salt. Stir and then bring to a simmer. Turn the heat to medium-low and let simmer for about an hour. Sprinkle with cheese and pickled jalapenos if desired and serve.
