Fall Favorite | Traditional Apple Pie

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I am officially ready for fall. Only 13 more days! The weather has been over 100 degrees for the past two weeks so it certainly doesn't feel like fall is going to be here anytime soon. Blah. I am hoping the cooler temperatures will arrive and STAY very soon. Thinking of the cooler days ahead I decided to bake a pie today, not just any pie, Apple Pie. Apple pie is probably the favorite in our house. What is the favorite in yours? Something about it that is so warm and comforting on a cool fall day.

Traditional Apple Pie

1 package refrigerated pie crusts (comes with two crusts )
4 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the apples, brown sugar, and flour. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat and add the apple mixture. Saute for about 15 minutes or until soft. Remove from heat. Place one of the pie crusts in a 9 inch pie plate. Spoon the apples into the crust and top with cinnamon and nutmeg. Top the pie with remaining crust or use a pie cutter to cut out shapes in the remaining crust and place over the top. I used a large and small leaf shape cutter for this pie. Place pie plate on a cookie sheet and bake for about 40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let sit for at least 20 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
