I received my September issue of Southern Living a few days ago, and the recipe for this heavenly dessert was in it. German chocolate cake is one of my favorite desserts, so why not turn it into a bar? The moment I saw these I immediately thought of my dad and Thanksgiving. He loves pecan pie and every year for Thanksgiving I make one for him.
The roasted pecans made my house smell amazing, it reminded me of baking on a cool Autumn morning. Absolutely perfect. While making the topping for the bars I tried hard not to try a bite, but I failed miserably. I could eat the topping by itself. For me, it could be a food group. There is something about coconut and pecans that I simply cannot resist. EVER! Combine the topping with chocolate and you have a delicious and decadent dessert! My mouth is watering now just looking at them. The only problem I had was the humidity, the chocolate melted very quickly, so the bars didnt want to stay together once they were cut. This is definitely a dessert you want to make in the cooler months.
